Hi, this is Katie, and thank you for joining me on the Creating Your Sanctuary podcast, and this podcast is about creating those little moments in space that support you.

00:19
And today I wanted to talk about growth, but also give you a bit of a behind the scenes about where I'm at.

00:28
So this is kind of a pivotal moment because I realized that my plan that I had for the year.

00:34
I had all of these topics kind of mapped out.

00:38
Excuse me, my throat is not doing well today, but I had these topics picked out for the year, and they were following a pattern I had done years back.

00:51
Um, I had written some posts, but of course now I have a totally different perspective on each word of the week.

00:58
And, But I'm also, was like, what?

01:03
It's I don't want this to be an art piece, right?

01:08
It's not about taking a word and dissecting it and seeing like it from all different perspectives and and while I love to do that.

01:18
I mean, honestly, I do love dissecting words.

01:22
And figuring out meanings and figuring out new meanings and kind of going deep on things.

01:28
It really wasn't serving.

01:31
I mean, I can see now after it's been a month and a half now into the year, it's mid-February and I'm like, mm.

01:38
This isn't quite working, but this week's word actually does kind of coincide.

01:44
So I'll see if there's synchronicities, right, moving forward.

01:48
I'll look at the word that I had planned out.

01:50
But I may or may not actually use it going forward.

01:54
But this week's word growth also coincided with a meme or just a quote I found that I actually saved, um, and I'm bringing it up right now on my phone just so I say it correctly.

02:13
Um, because I think it's kind of important to get it like word for word.

02:18
And the meme says in quotes.

02:22
Because I don't want that for myself anymore, unquote, is an extremely valid reason to stop doing literally anything. And I had to share this right away because it was just stuck out because it's exactly what I needed to hear, right?

02:42
It was like, something's just not working.

02:44
So why, why am I continuing with that?

02:46
And I felt pressure because each of these themes each week were coinciding with like, American holidays or just times of year that, um, synced up with, like, you know, spring coming or holidays in the winter, and you know, like,

03:09
And I felt like if I slipped off of that, the whole rest of the year would be just off.

03:16
Like if I just missed a week, everything would be off.

03:19
But I'm like, that's not true, is it?

03:20
That's not true.

03:22
Can I have a growth moment here?

03:25
Can I look at something and go, this is not serving me?

03:31
This is not serving the people I want to help.

03:33
This is not, um, and it's just not working.

03:38
It's just not working.

03:40
And to be like, okay.

03:42
Let's just pause everything and take a deeper look.

03:45
Get my bearings, get my head around.

03:49
What is it that I actually want to be doing?

03:52
And shift and change and try something.

03:56
It's not about like the very 1st thing that I find is going to work.

04:02
So I have been experimenting a lot this year and I, um, Pick tarot cards each week that I look at, and they've been very meaningful.

04:12
I love picking a card because it tickles that part of your brain that.

04:17
You kind of already know some of the answers to and you make associations with the artwork on a card and you go, hey, maybe I could try this or maybe this is the theme for the week.

04:31
Like, last week I had the fool, which is time to dive in.

04:36
And I did.

04:38
I kind of like dove in and was connecting with people and giving it a chance to things that I really hadn't done before.

04:45
Um, I'm quite the introvert and, you know, I have to...

04:52
As I'm like putting myself out there online everywhere, but it's a very solo thing to do in my space where I'm not in front of other people.

05:03
Um, so in that way.

05:05
I'm an introvert, but yet I'm speaking out.

05:09
So, It's, And this week, I picked the world, which is more like bringing community together and connecting with others in a more meaningful way. And, um, I love seeing that progression of like, okay, get out of your own way.

05:29
Just try some things.

05:30
Okay, now how do you connect with others in the way that you really want to moving forward.

05:36
So, I don't know, I share these things because I feel like you can pivot whenever you want because and it maybe that that pivot itself takes a while.

05:52
Maybe it's like you're in a job now and you want to be in a different job in 6 months.

05:57
That's not a single day thing that you just achieve, right?

06:01
There's lots of steps along the way.

06:04
But the very 1st step is going, well, this isn't working.

06:09
This is not what I want.

06:11
I want to grow.

06:14
I've, maybe you've outgrown your little pot that you've been growing in and you need to move to a bigger pot or move to a sunnier place or move to, you know, a place that has more humidity.

06:27
I'm just equating it to like a plant because I love blands and I miss my plans.

06:32
Um, I had quite a few in the states and now here I have two.

06:38
But, um, I make those analogies because I do really feel that, that we grow in so many ways and our roots grow in so many ways that it can very much feel too crowded or just the space isn't there for you anymore.

06:59
Your sanctuaries just doesn't fit you anymore.

07:01
The, the safety and the, the comfort that you, that did serve you for a while that was there for you.

07:10
It just doesn't fit anymore.

07:13
And that's okay.

07:14
You're growing.

07:16
And another meme, I don't have it in front of me, but, um, talks about like if you don't look back and you aren't kind of cringe about your past, have you grown?

07:26
I think there's a difference between like fully accepting your past and going, okay, that was me.

07:33
That was, you know, I still honor and love that past self.

07:38
There's nothing wrong with it.

07:40
But I think it's along the same lines.

07:43
You've outgrown it.

07:44
If you try to step back into that person that you were, you'd be like, this doesn't fit me, like in, like a sweater that's too tight or itchy or something or um, a shoe that's just worn out.

07:59
Uh, and you're like, I need something else to support me now.

08:03
I need shoes that will carry me into my next endeavors.

08:08
And I'm making a lot of analogies here, but I think it helps to kind of like picture things, um, in an abstract way because it's very hard to picture exactly your growth.

08:22
It's very hard to go, oh, this was the time I wrote that email, and I connected with someone, or this is that time I had that phone call or video call and connected, or this was the time I applied for that, um, school.

08:35
And I filled out this PDF form.

08:38
Or online form and registered.

08:41
Like, those are the physical things that are happening.

08:45
But I think sometimes it's nice to romanticize it and go, well.

08:51
This is when I grew out of my shoes.

08:55
This is when I grew out of my life.

08:57
This is when, um, me as a plant have outgrown, where I've been, um, and I don't know.

09:08
I think there's something beautiful in that.

09:09
Nature definitely.

09:11
keeps growing all around us, and imperfectly, and in ways that sometimes are unexpected, like a tree can grow crooked, and trying to bend towards the light.

09:25
So I guess in that sense, I, I want you to be able to look around a little bit and see where you have grown and see if your sanctuary has grown with you, whether it be physical or, um, just supportive people that you have around you and maybe looking for more people to connect with, if you feel like that

09:52
is something really important to you.

09:54
Um, I think we can feel sometimes that, you know, we form these communities around us in that it's moving forward in a really good way, and then sometimes those connections can fall by the wayside, whether it's up to us or not.

10:13
And so sometimes we have to continue to reach out and connect with new people.

10:19
So however you're creating your sanctuary right now, it's enough.

10:24
I'll see you next time.
